QW: The next best thing is Rail Trails

Sally Hawxwell, Bithramere

Much as I love trains and would support their reestablishment everywhere, It’s just NOT going to happen. SO

The next best thing is “Rail Trails” Your beautiful towns will really benefit, They provide safe riding and walking in a world dominated by cars and trucks. People will visit and spend money in your town. Teenagers can experience freedom safely. Go and try some with your family, It’s an experience which is a win for everyone.

  1. By taking railways away we are ensuring roads remain clogged with traffic and trucks as there is no alternative transport links for freight and cars.
Rail trails are fine as long as your not the ratepayer taking the risk I guess and it’s not you who has no public transport. Coming from Tamworth you should well known you don’t have to remove train lines to have safe cycling opportunities or encourage cycling tourists, lots of nice opportunity for it there and trains that can take you south and most of the way north if you choose. Lucky for Tamworth residents they live in a major town and have a major hospital and health care.

  2. Rail isn’t going beyond Armidale unless a major freight company has a will to build a terminal somewhere further and has a industry to support it.

Ardglen is already a bottle neck and the government wont fund suggested upgrades

We will soon have the inland rail project connecting QLD to NSW and VIC that can reduce road transport via the use of intermodal hubs along it and branch lines
