Opinion: Dance first. Think later. It’s the natural order.

Annabel Doherty, Armidale

“There has never been a more exciting time to be alive than today, and there has never been a more exciting time to be an Australian!” (Malcolm Turnbull 🎩)

It has been fascinating watching Ms Hanson’s and Mr Abbott’s Shakespearean dance over the past few decades.

In 1996 Ms Hanson was endorsed as the candidate for the Liberal Party in the seat of Oxley. At the time it was the safest seat held by Labor in Queensland.

The Liberal Party have always felt uncomfortable with overt racism, they prefer the covert kind (you know, refined racism with manners). Ms Hanson was disendorsed so they could continue to do racism their own way (for a while). But the disendorsement was too late for the AEC and Ms Hanson was voted in under the Liberal Party banner.

If the Liberals had kept Ms Hanson she would have recorded the biggest two-party swing to the Libs during the 1996 election.

It was probably (and allegedly) around this time that Mr Abbott was instructed to do something about that uppity Ms Hanson soiling the Robert Menzie’s Liberal Party’s name! Off with her head!

But just like Bruce eating his Iced VoVos while working on his car, Ms Hanson didn’t care. She became an Independent and commenced telling us how much she hates this country. Her hatred for Australia has grown and has been amplified for all to join in. Even Mr Angus Taylor is now regularly telling us how much he hates Australia; he’s doing a great job of it! It is now a fully-fledged Aussie value to be as overt as possible with all our hatred and bigotries. People are louder and prouder than they have ever been in regards to telling us how horrible this country is and how much they hate living here.

Ms Hanson soon introduced Australia to David Oldfield, David Ettridge and Pauline Hanson’s One Nation Party. This is the point, according to Ms Hanson’s memoirs Untamed and Unashamed, where your memories and imagination should commingle in honour of Ms Hanson and Mr Oldfield (who was a member of Mr Abbott’s staff at the time).

1998 – Ms Hanson lost her Lower House seat, and ever since this time we have been privy to the internal days of our lives saga that continues to play out within the One Nation gang’s headquarters. Mr Joyce gave us a great example of this last week regarding their authoritarian housing policy proposal on SKY.

2001 – Ms Hanson lost another run for the Upper House. Too many of James Dibble’s Hot Bananas in the Queensland water that year!

2002 – Due to post coital arguments, Ms Hanson resigned from the One Nation Party.

2003 – Ms Hanson and Mr Ettridge were incarcerated for 11 weeks when they were released on appeal.

Mr Abbott (allegedly) played a massive role in getting Ms Hanson incarcerated! Although, establishing a trust fund to finance getting rid of her probably makes the word ‘allegedly’ redundant. When it was announced that Ms Hanson and Mr Ettridge would be incarcerated for three years both Ms Bronwyn Choppergate Bishop and Mr Howard publicly stated it was too harsh! I note that Mr Abbott has always been considered the love child of Ms Bishop and Mr Howard …

Post incarceration Ms Hanson lost her campaign for a seat in the NSW Legislative Council.

In 2004 she threw us one of those flip-flopping curve balls she loves to throw and declared she didn’t want anything to do with politics. But, she flip-flopped and ran as an Indy for a Queensland Senate spot in the 2004 Federal Election … she lost.

2007 – she formed the Pauline’s United Australia Party. (Not that one, and no, not that one either).

2009 – she again ran for the Queensland State Election as an Indy and lost. After this Election she spat the dummy. She told us she was deregistering the United Australia Party, selling her house, but not to Muslims, and moving to the UK. We danced! But then she found out the UK had non-white and non-Christian people living there too! And they had more of them than we did!!! So she said f*#k that, and we were stuck with her. We all slow danced …

2010 – she reached out to Mr Abbott and said she would love to rejoin the Liberal Party. But Mr Abbott was distracted by Ms Gillard and ignored Ms Hanson.

2011 – she again tried for a spot in the NSW Legislative Council but lost. This was followed by some drama akin to her being scammed by a Nigerian Prince and she took the NSWEC to court. Because she was scammed she sorta won and lost in that matter.

2013 – she rejoined the One Nation Party … and lost a run for the NSW Senate at the Federal Election.

2014 – she announced she was once again the leader of One Nation – Hallelujah – we all danced in the streets!

2015 – she ran as a candidate for Lockyer in the QLD State Election and lost.

And then 🥁

On July 2nd 2016 Queenslanders voted Ms Hanson back into the Upper House! Ms Hanson was back! More dancing!

2018 – she proposed the glorious ‘It’s OK to be white’ motion, which gave us plebs so much warmth and entertainment watching the LNP MPs play musical chairs. It was two days of pride for all the White Nationalists!

I don’t understand why Ms Hanson’s supporters get all upset when called a bigot or racist. I’m stoked with pride when they call me woke. Why aren’t they just as stoked when called a racist and/or a bigot? Maybe this is something that big suppository of all wisdom could answer for us.

On May 18th 2019 Australia voted for Mr Abbott to finish his career as a representative (allegedly) in the Big House’s Lower House. We all danced in the streets.

More blah blah blah and then Trump got in a second time and that New World Order all of the people have been warning us about hit us! Or did it? Because they are still banging on about a New World Order. And the current New World Order is apparently not the New World Order. It’s the Upside-Down World at the top of The Faraway Tree. It’s like the song that never ends …

I have never seen the community more engaged in politics than I am right now. It’s not fun at all, but wow! It’s full of memes and ignorance and lying but that’s nothing new. It’s the level of engagement that is new. It’s something some of us could only dream of, even if it is one of those ‘not like that’ moments for some of us. But it is engagement!

One Nation now has power and influence! With Australia’s richest person bankrolling them they are like pigs in mud. They are high on life and loving it.

It’s 2026 and One Nation is planning on becoming the new Opposition. And, Tony Abbott has been erected as the new El Presidente of the Liberal Party.

Ms Hanson is about to perform on the prominent stage of the National Press Club of Australia. I predict it will be one of the most watched deliveries in the Club’s history.

So much for Ms Hanson’s ‘I have been murdered’ video!

I abhor everything Ms Hanson and One Nation stand for. I am shocked, saddened and in awe of her survival and resilience. I look forward to being in the front row seats for the ongoing Hanson Abbott dance.

Boomshanka ❤

Ain’t politics fun! 😊
