Opinion: Lazy politics means no growth

Mal Peters

Having extensive experience in regional development as chair of both Regional development Australia Northern Inland and the Regional Australia Institute, I know how difficult it is to get new investment into rural towns.

Renewable energy has already pumped millions into New an England with millions more to come. The multiplier effect adds many more millions.

I understand some Farmers opposition to renewables, but I also know solutions can be found to appease concerns. Opposing the REZ is lazy politics that relegates the New England to a future of no growth.

We need innovation that will drive growth while making sure farmers concerns are addressed. They are not mutually exclusive.
