Letter: Joyce sideline

Mal Peters, Ashford

Rural people have always had conflict with the Nationals saying one thing in the bush and another when they went to Canberra. The perils of Coalition.

But they do get into power sometimes to make change.

The One Nation commentary never becomes more than that. Always talk the talk, never the walk.

  1. Irrespective of your Political beliefs, Australia has transformed into a Dictatorship because of the disjointed Opposition Parties. This is not nationally healthy . If One Nation’s actions can act as trigger to reunite the Conservatives and provide traditional positive opposition they have my blessing.

  2. The party of mining. Australia could feed all of Asia if we returned all of the northern cane fields to proper horticulture

  3. These are indeed unprecedented times, locally, federally and globally. Past observations of time worn machinations now ring hollow, and indeed ineffective, in these troubled times. One Nation is finding a renewed relevance, knowingly not as a viable option but simply a refuge for the continuing army of disaffected and frightened voters. No longer is One Nation viewed solely as racist rednecks who point up at planes, but a tangible protest vote that may eventually manifest in some form as a realistic opposition. Whilst Labors Bradbury moments continue to deliver, people are watching their Australia slipping away, they’re hurting, insecure, and ready for change. Immigration, renewables, and gun laws present diametrically opposing benefits and repercussions within the Coalition, rendering it unworkable, and them now unsuitable bedmates.

    1. Brian Moore and look what the US protest vote got them. And the Brits got Brexit as a protest. Even the protesters now think Brexit was a bad deal.

    2. Brian Moore so immigration, renewables and gun laws are causing ‘their’ Australia to slip away? I’m baffled. Australia is an immigrant nation and always has been. Renewables do not effect anyone unless you have weird attitudes and gun laws are what stops us killing each other.
The right seem to keep pushing these as touch points but never really expose what is really the problem.

      1. Chris Morison Your views reflect exactly why the Coalition no longer walk in lockstep with themselves nor their constituents, and why the disaffected, of which there are many, are understandably seeking an alternative.

      2. Brian Moore there isn’t that many judging by how many One Nation MHRs there are. The ‘disaffected’ are spoon fed this vitriol from Sky News who with Murdoch’s direction have been fueling division for decades. Sky News after dark is beamed in to rural Australia for free. City folk wouldn’t waste their money which is why they vote left. Then there’s cognitive dissonance ……
What people are seeking can’t be provided by the so called alternatives. Cooperation, community, coexistence and multiculturalism are the pillars of Australian society. Hatred, bigotry and racism doesn’t help anyone.

      3. Chris Morison I am saddened to read your view of the current situation and sadder that you believe we are on the right course.

      4. Brian Moore maybe you need to read further and do more research Brian. You sound like you’re on a well trodden path that has led a lot of people in history to oblivion.
